Visit the War Museum

The collection at the Memorial 40-45 Kapelle museum tells the moving and often personal stories of the French soldiers in the Netherlands. In the days of May 1940 and the war years that followed, thousands of French soldiers fought against German troops on Dutch soil. Many were killed in and around Kapelle, but also in other places in Zeeland and throughout the country. The museum also tells the stories of the people from the village of Kapelle who knew them. Within walking distance of the museum lies the only French World War II cemetery in the Netherlands. The remarkable history of this cemetery is explored in detail at the museum.

Practical information

The museum is open every Saturday from April 1 through October 30. From November through March, visits are available by appointment. Admission to the museum includes a free guided tour lasting 1 to 1.5 hours. Children under 6 and holders of a Veterans Pass or Defense Pass receive free admission.
