Hiking in the Yerseke and Kapelse Moer Nature Reserve

Near Kapelle lies an authentic Zeeland polder landscape, the Yerseke and Kapelse Moer. This meadow bird habitat is part of the UNESCO Scheldt Delta Geopark and has been designated the tenth Iconic Landscape of the Netherlands. Here you’ll find winding roads and small ditches that could easily be a 1,000-year-old creek. Between July 15 and October 15, you can hike the Summer Route right through this Geopark landscape. Outside of this period, the route is closed, and you can view the landscape from the public roads running alongside the area. This allows birds to overwinter and breed in peace.

Practical information

The unpaved Summer Route can be muddy, so be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes. Information signs along the way provide explanations. The route is approximately 3.2 km long and starts at the Schelvrijweg/Reeweg intersection in Yerseke.
