Slabbekoorn Fruit

Slabbekoorn Fruit is a fruit-growing business with a total of about 70 hectares, 5 of which are used as arable land. We grow our fruit at three different locations in Zeeland: Eversdijk, Kruiningen, and Kats. The business is run by Martijn and Jessica Slabbekoorn.

What we grow

We grow various varieties of apples and pears, including Conference, Beurré Alexander Lucas, and Elstar. We also grow strawberries. We sell a portion of our produce through our own fruit vending machine. Our main facility is located in Eversdijk (municipality of Kapelle, Zeeland). This is also where our storage and refrigeration warehouses are located, as well as our office and the on-site housing for foreign migrant workers.

History

Our ancestors founded this company back in the late^19th century. Today, the^sixth generation is working to further develop the business. To this end, we are exploring all kinds of new techniques and resources; please visit our website at www.slabbekoornfruit.nl.

Sustainability

We farm in an environmentally conscious manner. For example, whenever possible, we use natural predators to combat diseases and pests. In addition, we have three weather stations that use computer models to track the progression of various diseases. This allows us to minimize the use of pesticides as much as possible.

In addition to the environment, we also take working conditions into account. We use Pluk-o-Track machines (see the first photo below in the photo gallery) to make the work as comfortable as possible for our staff.

Every day is different

The great thing about our profession is that it’s so incredibly diverse. There are so many different aspects you need to know about! One day you’re examining insects with a magnifying glass, and the next you’re lying under a tractor with grease all over your hands, tinkering with it. No two days are the same!

Fruit, juice, and honey

In April 2020, we launched our first fruit vending machine, and now we have two! You’ll find them at Eversdijkseweg 18A in Kapelle, in the entrance hall of our new building. We sell honey (from our own orchard) and various types of juice year-round. We also offer strawberries, apples, pears, and grapes (when available). You can pay with a debit card and/or cash.
