Wemeldinge is a real diving hotspot. There are more than ten diving spots between Wemeldinge and Kattendijke. Each spot and each season offers its own view of the underwater world of the Oosterschelde. There are various facilities that make Wemeldinge a 5-star diving hotspot:

• parking facilities;
• steps on the dike to make it easier to get in and out of the water;
• changing room with sinks (De Stelhoeve);
• compressed air filling stations (Klein Stelle and Duikplaats Wemeldinge Parking);
• hospitality industry.

Underwater life

The underwater life of the Oosterschelde consists of more than 250 animal species and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Just think of sea bass, mullet, sole, flounder, dab, turbot, brill, eel, pipefish, butterfish, goby, wrasse, pipefish, seahorses, sea toads, blennies, cuttlefish, sepiola, snotfish, ... too many to mention! Shallow areas in particular are extremely rich in flora. Just think of the 142 different species of seaweed, red algae, brown algae, and green algae. These form a biotope for a large part of underwater life.

At the 'De Duikbril' information point at the start of the Kattendijksedijk, you can learn more about the underwater world. There are four tidal pools between the two beaches. At high tide, they are submerged, and at low tide, they dry out. This brings the underwater world very close, allowing you to admire different types of seaweed, shrimp, anemones, and young fish. And you can do so without getting wet!

Summer and winter

Diving is possible in both winter and summer. The water temperature ranges from a minimum of approximately -2 to a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius. As a result, the presence of animals and plants varies depending on the season.
