They aren’t the vast sandy beaches you find along the North Sea, but rather charming spots where you can enjoy the view, take a refreshing dip, or simply unwind. Thanks to their location on the Oosterschelde, these beaches are also an ideal starting point for exploring nature and the underwater world.

Wemeldinge has two small beaches, each with its own character. The first beach is located behind the Promenade, near the marina. Here you can enjoy a lively atmosphere with restaurants and amenities within walking distance. The second small beach is located near Camping Linda and has a quieter atmosphere. Both locations offer a beautiful view of the Oosterschelde and are great places to relax.

Please keep in mind that the small beaches are part of the tidal zone. At high tide, parts of the beach are submerged. That is precisely what makes a visit to the Oosterschelde so special: the landscape is constantly changing with the ebb and flow of the tides.

More Than Just a Beach

The beaches aren’t just a great place to swim or sunbathe. At low tide, there’s much more to discover. In the tidal pools, you can get an up-close look at the animals and plants that live in the Oosterschelde. Children can search for crabs, shrimp, and small fish here, while nature lovers can enjoy the unique underwater life.

With a little luck, you might even spot a porpoise or a seal from the dike. These animals are often seen, especially in calm weather. Bring a pair of binoculars and scan the water carefully; sometimes you’ll only see a back or a curious head poking out of the water.

Hiking along the Oosterschelde

From the beaches, you can easily walk up onto the dike for a lovely stroll along the Oosterschelde. Along the way, you can enjoy the view of the water, the passing ships, and the natural beauty of Oosterschelde National Park. A visit to the charming marina or the center of Wemeldinge is also easy to combine with a day at the beach.

Amenities and Parking

Both beaches are open to the public and easily accessible. At the beach behind the Promenade, near the marina, you can park in the parking lot on Nieuwendijk. During the swimming season, you’ll also find a public restroom and restaurants within walking distance. This beach is also easily accessible for people with disabilities.

Are you visiting the small beach at Camping Linda? If so, you can park on the dike along Onderhoudsweg, near the Oosterschelde information point. From there, it’s just a few minutes’ walk along the dike to the beach. This small beach is in a quiet location and has picnic benches, but there are no public restrooms or food and beverage facilities.
