Former oyster beds
At low tide, you can see the remains of oyster beds along the dike between Wemeldinge and Kattendijke. Oysters were farmed here until the middle of the last century. During the harsh winter of 1962–1963, most of the oysters died, bringing an end to oyster farming at this location. At low tide, water remains in the pits, allowing various flora and fauna from the Oosterschelde to grow there.
